Kicking about…Portugal

So although the cloudy weather and a very flat tyre has stopped my plans for hittng up Beinn a’Chochuill and Beinn Eunaich up beside Loch Awe. It has given me some time have a dig around and research another little Adventure Plan for 2019; Cycling the Coast of Portugal.

One concern was having enough time off work to complete it and enjoy it without rushing like a crazy person. Ideally I want to be able to get up and cycle in the morning, stop somewhere nice for lunch then maybe cycle a little further or spend the rest of the day exploring whatever little coastal village I get to.

Looking at weather and holidays I am planning to do this over the Easter break with the help of the bank holidays it means 8 days holiday time for 16 days in Portugal, not a bad deal!

Now to look at the route, I want to stay as close to the smaller coastal roads as possible and also if the main navigation is keeping the NOrth Atlantic Ocean on one side of me all the better!

Arrive at Porto which isnt quite the top of the country I know but its easiest to fly into and then head down the coast to Sagres before taking the Ecovita along the Alrgarve all the way to Vila Real de San Antonio around 938km….

So far the cycling is looking like 12 days in the saddle with a couple of days kicking about the Algarve in the sunshine adn on a rainy cloudy day stuck inside that is sounding very appealing!
